AFTON SEASON CUT SHORT BY WEATHER

AFTON, NY, November 5 - Mother Nature forced an unexpected end to the 2009 season at Afton Motor Speedway after rain forced the second consecutive cancellation of the scheduled season-ending "Spooktacular" event. Following the second rainout at the 3/8th mile dirt track this past Saturday, promoters Dave and Joanne Rocket were left with no choice but to cancel the event.

"We really wanted to provide those racers who have supported us in our inaugural season at Afton with a big race to end their season," the Rockets stated. "However, we don't have a Sunday rain date option available, and unlike our fellow promoters, we did not want to conflict with the schedules of surrounding tracks.

"Scheduling a rain date would have pushed the race to the end of November," the Rockets continued, "and from past experience, we know that the cold weather at night would definitely have impacted the show."

The Rockets currently promote Saturday night racing at Bethel Motor Speedway in White Lake, NY and reopened Afton Motor Speedway in July, after the track had been dormant for more than two years. The 2009 season at Afton featured weekly Friday night shows that included the Sportsman, IMCA-type Modified, Street Stock, Pure Stock, and 4 Cylinder classes at a general admission price of only $5.
